SAINT MARY’S SCHOOL
If success breeds success, then through the grace of God, Saint Mary School is the poster child of this sentiment. Located in Middletown, NJ Saint Mary’s is a preschool through 8th grade Catholic School of the Diocese of Trenton and is the campus school of St. Mary parish. The school is nestled on a beautiful 58-acre campus which it shares with Mary, Mother God Church.
While the media is often filled with stories of the decline and closure of Catholic schools in America, Saint Mary student population has been steadily increasing. Where many schools have empty rooms, Saint Mary is in the enviable position of trying to find space for all who wish to come here.
Why is this the case? There are many reasons for this but the one that we frequently hear is that” this is the way education should be” along with “I wish that I had made this decision sooner. We love it here!” Saint Mary’s is different. It is different from most other schools in that its core purpose is not testing or the latest educational fad or agenda. Its core purpose is summed up in our Mission Statement, “Go Make Disciples” as well as our motto of always being Academically Excellent, Passionately Catholic.
Everything that we do is centered on Christ and His teachings. The result is a community anchored by faith that worships, learns, and reaches out to others as part of our daily school life. Religion is not an add on but at the heart of each subject and each activity every day. Being part of our DNA, faith affects how we deal with each other and what we expect of ourselves.
Our students are formed in the ways of God to be successful citizens of this world and the next. There are many aspects to forming a child, far more than a textbook could satisfy. We strive to be academically excellent, always pushing the bar with each of our students to reach their individual academic potential. We develop the physical body through many sporting activities, we develop our students' talents through an extensive music, theatre, and arts program. We help our students widen their horizons through such programs as Snapology, a STEM after school program for our younger students.
Our students learn to read by third grade and thereafter read to learn through a solid, engaging, and enjoyable language arts curriculum. We offer high school level Mathematics for capable students in seventh and eighth grades as well as Physics, Biology and Chemistry as part of our regular Middle School Science program. Students at these grades get a trimester each year of STEM, philosophy, and ethics as well. Those students who are classified or need a helping hand receive it in our well-staffed Center for Achievement.
Jesus called a community around Him as his followers. The one word that our parents, students, and staff use to describe our school is that it is a community. We are a family of families working together towards the common good and the sanctity of our children. Generations of families know this and would not consider educating their children elsewhere. Newer families quickly discover this and join the chorus of “education as it should be.”
