Dear Parents/Guardians of Saint Mary School Students,
A Duke University study has shown that the neck gaiter, originally considered by Saint Mary School as the face covering of choice for its convenience, ability to remain on the person without straps or strings, and its matching the school uniform, is now a problem. After discussion with the Reopening Committee and other school and university administrators, we are going to amend the school’s stance on required face coverings for both staff and students. I’m sure some gaiters are better than others. However, in the spirit of being as cautious as possible, we will not be using gaiters as a face covering any longer.
Please read the following article for more information and to better understand why we are making this change.
I am researching other avenues and have already received information about a mask that will better serve our staff and students. We will share that information shortly.
